Weatherstripping – Defined

  • Weatherstripping is an easy and cost-effective way to save money on energy costs and improve comfort by reducing drafts. Many homeowners install their own weatherstripping.(DOE)
  • Weatherstripping reduces air leakage by creating a tight seal between movable building components such as doors and operable windows and the building structure. (DOE)
  • Used to seal gaps between two movable parts of a home structure or a movable part and a frame, such as a window.
  • The stripping is available in different shapes and sizes. It forms a non-infiltrating seal with the movable part (say the window) when the part is shut down.
